Prestigious Events

How often to you get the chance to ride at Blenheim or Hickstead?

We are always keen to send teams to prestigious shows

if there are enough members wanting to take part.  It is a

fantastic opportunity for members to compete at these

famous events.

BRC Qualifiers and Championships

British Riding Clubs run a variety of individual and team qualifier competitions throughout the year, with winners qualifying for the various BRC National Championships. This covers a range of disciplines including Dressage, Dressage to Music, Show Jumping, Arena Eventing, Horse Trials and combined events.  Details of these are on the Competition Schedules & Results page, and then Entry is via the What's On/Entries page.

We would love to enter some of our members into the BRC competitions, either as individuals or in teams.  Some people are competitive, but not all, some people just want to try their best and have fun.  Everyone is welcome to enter.

Above all we want the MKRC team selection process to be inclusive not exclusive. We hope we can offer something for everyone and get rid of any ‘elitism’ thoughts people may have about riding club teams. Our riding club is about our members and we hope that people who have not previously got involved in teams will think about having a go.

Please remember that for all Area competitions all horses/ponies need to be fully flu vaccinated in accordance with jockey club rules. Please ask if you are in any doubt.

Entry Fees

Once we have put pre-entries in, under BRC rules we are committed to pay the full entry fee, so if you find you cannot compete and we cannot find a reserve, we will not be able to issue a refund — sorry!

Thanks to those of you that have already expressed an interest in the team competitions.  For everyone else who would like to compete please let us know.

Hat Standards/Body Protectors

Hat standards are updated and checked every year.  The current BRC Rule Book lists the standards required for the current year.  You will not be permitted to compete if your hat does not meet the required standards.  A little coloured tag is attached to your hat to show that it has been checked & passes the current standards, so you don't need to get it checked at every competition.

Body Protector standards are also updated periodically.  A body protector of the required standard is compulsory for hunter trials, arena eventing & combined challenge, and is recommended for showjumping.

BRC Whip & Spurs Rules from 2020

BRC have implemented the same rule as BS regarding whips & spurs.  This is listed in the rule book and applies to Show Jumping, Style Jumping, Horse Trails, FOTH Challenge, Arena Eventing and Combined Training.  Only cushioned whips are allowed.

BRC Vaccination Rules

Horses must be up-to-date with their vaccinations for equine influenza.  They must not have been vaccinated in the 7 days prior to competing in a qualifier or championship.  See section G7 in the BRC rulebook for full rules.
